To An Ipod?…

Chloe was dragged to yet another swim meet to watch her sisters.

It takes a lot of pleading and plotting and planning and promising and packing to get Chloe to come to watch her sister’s swim but really, what would she rather do on a beautiful, sunny, spring day?

I discussed our agenda with Chloe on the way to the swim meet.

I explained to her that we had packed some special snacks (rainbow Goldfish crackers) and a special drink (Frozen themed apple juice box) and that we had a pad of paper and a pen to colour on, her “ipod” (Greg’s old phone with one old game loaded onto it) to keep us busy in between races.

I wanted her to understand how important it is for her sisters to have her in the audience cheering them on and how one day they hope to return the favour by watching one of her glitter glue competitions.

She agreed (as she always does) that she would behave and would refrain from saying things like, “THIS IS SO BORING!” more than seventy-two times.

I asked her what would happen if she threw a fit or tried to run out of the building or set off the indoor sprinklers and she was quick to reply.

“You’ll take away my ipod and burn it in a fire.”

I was thinking about maybe withholding the crackers?
