1. Oatmeal—with blueberries, almonds, cinnamon and a dollop of yogurt. My go-to breakfast. The one thing I can remember for the rest of the day when I give into temptation and indulge in something naughty. Hey, remember when you ate that healthy bowl of oatmeal? You’re forgiven for the chocolate almonds and no, Greg oatmeal does not cause gout despite what you read on Wikipedia.
  2. Chocolate almonds—no shout-out necessary. They’re great straight from the freezer. A couple after lunch or three handfuls with a fun movie. Also, easy to hide in the palm of your hand when the kids start snooping around like drug sniffing dogs.
  3. A hot cup of tea steeped for just the right amount of time. Not an hour after you started the process and you find the bag floating at the top of your pot with a strange oily substance swirling around and the temperature is just above freezing.
  4. Croissants—while I don’t usually eat croissants, I am thankful for their availability and how much joy they bring to my eight year old. A croissant in her lunch and she’s ready to take on the world.
  5. Sushi—I’m thankful for the time I spent in Japan in my first year of University and for experimenting with chopsticks, crying because I couldn’t use them and opting to stab my food and pick it up like I was eating from the tip of a hunting knife until finally something clicked. Sushi has become a favourite meal in our house and I’m amazed our kids love it too.
  6. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc—I realize wine isn’t really a food but something about this particular bottle makes me smile. It’s fresh, it’s grassy, a hint of citrus and reminds me of summer.
  7. Any dinner where my stove doesn’t set itself to 350 degrees as I walk past and yell out, “so chicken breasts again tonight?”
  8. Pasta—a little secret. Nights I know Greg isn’t going to be home in time for dinner, I make goat cheese pasta with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic and a ton of veggies. When Greg comes home he asks, “Did you make that cheese that smells so bad it makes me want to barf?” Yep and once again, it was delicious.
  9. Foie gras—just because.
  10. Why do I eat so much?
